Group B Strep Disease

Description

Group B streptococcus (strep) is a bacterium that normally reside in the intestines or lower genital tract. This bacterium in adults is not so dangerous, except for patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes or liver but other newborns because these bacteria can cause serious health problems called Group B Strep disease.

Causes

Group B Streptococcus found in every human body but this bacteria is not transmitted through sexual intercourse and food or water. Group B Streptococcus can also spread to the baby through the birth if the baby is exposed or accidentally swallow liquids containing the bacteria.

Symptom

1. Baby

- Fever
- It's hard to eat
- Sluggish
- Cough-cough with fever
- Seizures

2. Adult

In adults, no specific symptoms.

Treatment

Antibiotics
