Description
Budesonide is a drug used to control certain intestinal conditions (such as Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis). While budesonide does not cure these conditions, but can only reduce symptoms such as pain and diarrhea. Budesonide is an anti-inflammatory medication (corticosteroid hormone) which works by reducing the body's immune response.
Indication
Medication to control the symptoms of inflammatory bowel disease, such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
Doses
Take this medicine with or without food as directed by your doctor, usually once daily in the morning. Take this medicine with a full glass of water, unless your doctor directs otherwise. Swallow all the drugs and do not crush or chew it, because it can increase the side effects.
Dose and duration of treatment is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Avoid eating grapefruit or drinking grapefruit juice while being treated with this medicine unless your doctor instructs otherwise. Grapefruit can increase the amount of certain drugs in the body. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.
If you regularly take a different corticosteroids (eg, prednisone), you should not stop taking unless directed by a doctor. Some conditions (such as asthma, allergies) may become worse when you suddenly stop taking this medication.
You may experience withdrawal symptoms if you suddenly stop taking this medication. To prevent withdrawal symptoms (such as weakness, weight loss, nausea, muscle aches, headache, tiredness, dizziness), your doctor may direct to slowly lower the dose of budesonide.
Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details, and report any withdrawal reactions that occur immediately. Use this medication regularly and at the same time every day. Do not increase your dose or take the drug in a longer time than prescribed because it may increase the risk of serious side effects.
Report to your doctor if your condition persists or continually worsened.
