A study conducted by Sara Evans - Lacko , researchers from the London School of Economics said that the ads that vilify smokers make smokers feel angry , defensive and eventually not even want to quit smoking . It is caused by a sense of their stress and trigger smoking behavior .
" Many smokers who admit they feel marginalized , sad , criminals and others. This makes them stressed and eventually smoked to relieve feelings of stress are apparent , " said Sara , quoted from the journal Social Science and Medicine .
Research Sara mention that 30-40 percent of smokers is not accepted by society , 27 per cent felt discriminated against , and 39 percent feel always humiliated people. Feelings like these can increase stress levels which ultimately makes the smoker can not be separated from the smoke .
Rebecca Evans - Polce , other researchers involved in the study, said it's good advertising campaign changed tobacco control concept. Not vilify smokers , but rather highlight what benefits could be smokers receive if he quit smoking .
" Rather than vilify smokers who actually make them stress , better sell what they can get if stopped . For example, if stopped , their expenses will be reduced and the money can be used for holidays. It could also shows that quitting smoking makes a person more active and happy , " he said
